XBRL Filings
Financial statements and some other returns filed in a tagged electronic format so that numbers can be read by software.
Formula
XBRL, eXtensible Business Reporting Language, is required by MCA for a defined set of companies. The tags map each figure to a concept in a taxonomy.
What it means
An XBRL file is the same accounts in a structured form. The point is comparability: revenue is tagged as revenue, not just placed in a cell that a human interprets.
Data vendors build screeners from these filings. Errors in tagging become errors in the screen.
How to read it
Use XBRL-derived data as a start, and tie any number you will publish back to the PDF annual report. The human-readable statement is still the document the auditor signed.
What to watch
A taxonomy change, a wrong tag, or an updated filing can revise a historical series without the company having restated in the ordinary sense. When a screen and the annual report disagree, the report wins.
This note explains the term. It is not a research recommendation, a target price, or a comment on any security. Ratios and regulatory thresholds change; use the latest filing or circular for a live figure.
