Fundamental Glossary / Financial Statements
Non-Current Assets
Assets the company expects to hold beyond twelve months. Also called long-term or fixed assets in older language.
Formula
Property, plant, equipment, intangibles, goodwill, long-term investments, and deferred tax assets are the usual groups.
What it means
Non-current assets are the capacity of the business: plants, shops, software platforms, spectrum, and stakes in other companies.
They are depreciated or amortised, unless they have an indefinite life, such as some land and goodwill. The net book value falls even when the asset is still useful.
How to read it
A rising non-current base should be matched by a plan for the sales it will support. Capital work-in-progress that never converts into commissioned assets is a warning.
What to watch
Revaluation can lift the number without new capacity. Impairments do the reverse. Read the movement schedule in the notes, not only the closing total.
This note explains the term. It is not a research recommendation, a target price, or a comment on any security. Ratios and regulatory thresholds change; use the latest filing or circular for a live figure.
