Order Inflow

The value of new orders won during the period.

Formula

Orders received during the period. Sometimes split between domestic and export, or between segments.

What it means

Order inflow refills the order book. Revenue executes it. Strong inflow and weak execution builds the book. Strong execution and weak inflow shrinks it.

One large order can dominate a quarter. Look at the number of orders as well as the value when it is disclosed.

How to read it

Inflow growing faster than the industry, at acceptable margins, is share gain in a project business. Inflow that only grows because one lumpy tender arrived is not yet a trend.

What to watch

Announced orders that are "letters of intent" may never become contracts. Prefer orders the company is willing to put in the reported order book.
