MCA (Ministry of Corporate Affairs)
The ministry that administers the Companies Act and the public registry of Indian companies.
Formula
The MCA21 portal holds incorporation records, annual returns, and financial-statement filings for companies, listed and unlisted.
What it means
MCA is the company-law home. SEBI is the securities-market regulator. A listed firm answers to both: MCA for its existence as a company, SEBI for its life as a listed issuer.
Charges on assets, director details, and the annual financials of subsidiaries are often easier to see on MCA than in a short exchange filing.
How to read it
For a group with many unlisted subsidiaries, MCA filings are how you see the pieces that consolidation might otherwise leave opaque.
What to watch
Filing delays and outdated director lists happen. An MCA extract is a source, not a guarantee that every charge or litigation is current.
This note explains the term. It is not a research recommendation, a target price, or a comment on any security. Ratios and regulatory thresholds change; use the latest filing or circular for a live figure.
