Fundamental Glossary / Indian Stock Market-Specific Fundamentals
NSE
The National Stock Exchange of India, the country's largest exchange by equity turnover.
Formula
A demutualised exchange. Nifty 50 is its flagship index. Equity, derivatives, currency, and debt trade on its platforms.
What it means
NSE is where most Indian equity volume and almost all index derivatives volume sits. Listed companies disclose results and shareholding to NSE as well as to BSE.
A fundamental analyst uses NSE for prices, corporate announcements, the shareholding pattern, and bulk and block deal data.
How to read it
Index membership, especially Nifty 50 and Nifty 500, drives passive flows. Entering or leaving an index is a demand event separate from the business.
What to watch
A price on NSE and a price on BSE can differ briefly. Use one venue's close for a series, and know which one your data vendor used.
This note explains the term. It is not a research recommendation, a target price, or a comment on any security. Ratios and regulatory thresholds change; use the latest filing or circular for a live figure.
